Marie Annabelle Lebrave’s Story

Date: 1/14/2024

I am 49 years old, married, with 2 children. My daughter is 26 years old, and my son is 22 years old.

I was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 21 after having a miscarriage (since I was pregnant with twins) in 1996.  After this frightening diagnosis of diabetes, I had 9 more miscarriages. These were the hardest moments of my life. But I didn’t give up, I exercised regularly and tried to control my glucose level. I became quite depressed in those years.

I am thankful for medicines and my doctors. I am now getting better. However, I often experience hypoglycemia and currently am on insulin therapy.

Three months ago, stones were discovered in my gallbladder and therefore, I had to undergo surgery. Since then, my diet has changed completely.

I have lived with diabetes for over half of my life. It has not been easy. The journey has been rough at times. However, it is not impossible to live with diabetes. I would like to tell people with diabetes or pre-diabetes not to be discouraged.
