Biosketch for Jayraz Luchoomun, Ph.D.

Dr. Jay Luchoomun
Dr. Jayraz Luchoomun grew up in the village of Chitrakoot, Vallée Des Prêtres, a suburb of Port Louis, the capital city of Mauritius. After completing his secondary education at Royal College of Port Louis, he received his Licence  and Maîtrise in Biochemistry from l’Université de Lille I in France, and a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences from l’Institut Pasteur also in Lille, France. He then joined the Medical College of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania as a Post-Doctoral fellow and stayed there for over three years before joining the pharmaceutical industry. Dr. Luchoomun has spent more than 18 years in small biotech and large pharmaceutical industry driving research programs from the discovery to clinical trials across a wide range of therapeutic areas including cardiovascular, dyslipidemia, diabetes, obesity, rheumatoid arthritis, and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease. Currently, he chooses to be a part-time pharmaceutical consultant in early drug discovery process in cardio-metabolic and NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis) disease, which allows him time to spend with family and be involved in service such as one with the 5-2035 mission. Dr. Luchoomun resides in the Seattle area, Washington State, with his wife, Viswanee Heeramun Luchoomun, Principal Scientist and Manager of Analytics at Verisk.
